How to Clean Crystals: A Comprehensive Guide

How to Clean Crystals

Like other accessories, crystals require careful maintenance. In addition to storing them separately to avoid collisions, it is also necessary to clean them regularly with a polishing cloth. However, when you notice the crystals becoming cloudy and dull, there’s no need to panic. This is actually the crystals sending you a signal: “I have absorbed a lot of negative energy; it’s time for me to take a bath!” Proper maintenance and cleaning can not only restore the crystals’ luster but also help them continue to emit positive energy.

How to Maintain, Care for, and Clean Crystals?

It is most recommended to use “filtered water” for cleaning and maintenance to avoid the possibility of invisible cracks in mineral crystals trapping other substances.

When you first receive the product, rinse it with clean water for 3 to 5 minutes, and be sure to dry it thoroughly afterward. If you sweat or get stains while wearing it, you can gently wash it with clean water or wipe it with a soft cloth at any time. Do not use chemical substances for cleaning or soaking, as this may damage the crystal. After cleaning, make sure to completely air dry to keep the crystal dry.

Do Crystals Need Regular Purification?

Regular purification can be beneficial. It is generally believed that crystals absorb negative energy from the body after prolonged wear. If you are someone who is easily affected by negative energy or has low emotions, you might consider regular purification, similar to emptying a trash can—releasing the crystals appropriately helps maintain positive energy flow.

What Methods Are There for Crystal Purification?

There are many methods for purification, and Wing provides the following four commonly used methods for your reference:

1. Light Purification Method

The light purification method, also known as sunlight/moonlight exposure, is the most convenient and quickest way, requiring no tools to help the crystal return to its original state.

Sunlight

Sunlight:

  • Method: Place the crystal by a window or on a balcony to expose it to sunlight for 30 minutes to 1 hour, with the best time being noon.
  • Suitable Crystals: Suitable for heat-resistant crystals such as obsidian and clear quartz.

Moonlight

Moonlight:

  • Method: The light from the moon is a reflection of sunlight; it is recommended to purify for at least 3 hours.
  • Suitable Crystals: Generally suitable for gems such as moonstone, labradorite, and rose quartz, which are helpful in enhancing personal charm.

Please Note! The light purification method is not suitable for colored crystals such as rose quartz, amethyst, or smoky quartz, as these crystals contain elements like iron (Fe) and copper (Cu), which may oxidize or alter the molecular structure of the crystal due to prolonged exposure, resulting in fading.

Water Purification Method

2. Water Purification Method

This method has the shortest purification time and is best for emergencies. Flowing water can wash away surface dust and body oils, achieving a purifying effect. Rinse with filtered water for about 3 to 5 minutes, and be sure to dry the crystal completely afterward.

  • Suitable Crystals: Hard minerals that do not easily react with water, such as clear quartz and obsidian.

Please Note! While this method is simple, it may reduce the durability of the elastic line inside crystal bracelets and is not suitable for lower hardness crystals (such as rhodonite, fluorite, malachite, lapis lazuli, and turquoise). This method is also not recommended for design bracelets (non-pure silver metal accessories).

Crystal Chip Purification Method

3. Crystal Chip Purification Method

Use white crystal chips, which have their own purifying properties. The method is simple: pour the chips into a container, then place the crystal on top or cover the bracelet with the crystal chips. It is best to purify overnight; if it has been a long time since the last purification, it can be left for 3 to 5 days for deeper cleansing.

Please Note! Crystal chips also need to be purified after about a month of use, which can be done using sunlight or water purification.

Incense Purification Method

4. Incense Purification Method

This method is suitable for large spaces and larger objects. Good sandalwood not only beautifies the environment and eliminates odors but also has a calming effect. Simply light natural incense sticks made from sage, lavender, or musk, and let the fragrance surround the crystal to achieve the desired effect. The incense used for worship also has the same effect.

Note: When lighting the incense, please be cautious of any flammable materials nearby to avoid fire hazards. Many commercial incense materials contain chemical components, so be sure to choose carefully to ensure that the crystals can achieve the purification effect and not pose health risks.

The incense purification method primarily enhances environmental energy to achieve crystal demagnetization and purification. It is recommended to keep an eye on the incense while it burns for safety.

The incense purification method is also commonly used by crystal vendors, as moving large quantities of crystals can be time-consuming, making this method more efficient for them. If you enjoy collecting crystals or have large crystal displays at home, Wing recommends using the incense purification method.

Crystals play an important role in balancing energy in our lives, making their care particularly significant. Regular cleaning and maintenance not only keep the crystals shining but also allow them to continue emitting their unique energy. Treating crystals with care, while maintaining inner calm and stability, will help promote the smooth flow of energy. Let us cherish these beautiful gems together, allowing them to play a greater positive role in our lives.
